The Pit Stop Exit Report, Q3 2026: Labor Day Edition

By Jake Boyles · August 25, 2026 · From the Pit Stop database of 700,000+ places at all 19,675 US interstate exits

Labor Day weekend is the last great drive of summer. Before the country gets in the car, here is the state of the American interstate exit — the first edition of a quarterly report from the database we built for the Pit Stop app: every business at every exit in the country.

19,675 exits. 700,000+ places. One report.

What's at the ramps, what's missing from them, and what drivers are searching for — Q3 2026.

The system at a glance

The white space report

The most valuable number in this database isn't what's at an exit — it's what isn't. These are busy, fully built-out exits (multiple gas stations, restaurant rows, real traffic) where a whole category is simply absent from the map.

Big exits with no dedicated coffee shop:

ExitPlaces at the exitCoffee shops
I-15 Exit 40, Nevada (Mesquite)850
I-30 Exit 29, Texas (DFW metro)770
I-35 Exit 238, Texas (Temple)770
I-20 Exit 44, Georgia (metro Atlanta)760
I-35 Exit 241, Texas750

Mesquite, Nevada is the standout: 85 businesses at one exit — casinos, hotels, restaurants — and not one dedicated coffee shop on the map, on the exact corridor every Las Vegas–Salt Lake driver uses. Someone should fix that. Someone with a coffee brand and a real-estate team.

Big food-and-gas exits with zero hotels: I-93 Exit 4 in New Hampshire (53 places), I-70 Exits 87A/B in Maryland (Frederick, 50+ places each), and I-96 Exits 183/186A in Michigan (Lansing, 51+ places each) all have full restaurant rows and no lodging at the ramp.

Methodology. All figures from the Pit Stop database: 700,000+ mapped places across all 19,675 exits on the US interstate system, refreshed August 2026. Search-demand figures from Google Search Console impressions on our 23,000 exit guide pages. "No coffee" means no dedicated coffee shop is mapped at the exit; a diner that serves coffee doesn't count, and neither do cafes inside casinos.
